What Broke in Us

A mother and a son — a truth that broke something open, the silence that grew in its place, and the fragile, unfinished work of repair.

Before I said anything to her, my mother already knew.

She knew, but she couldn't bear the thought.

She withdrew into silence, into a fear she had no one to share with.

Then she tried to disappear.

I told her once everything had already broken, but maybe the truth is what kept it from ending.

Pain and silence between us became a space where nothing was spoken.

Now she tries to come closer, to mend what broke in us.

And I stand, between grief and anger, between love and the boundary I had to draw.
